I went to pick up my visa today. Told my extended family when they came to visit. I got a lot of good lucks and I'll miss yous. It's all starting to feel a little bit more real. That's not to say that this isn't a very, very surreal experience.
I wore a fedora out today. I felt so fabulous.

I'm spending half of 2011 living in Montpellier, France, far away from my home and family in Mexico. This is a record of the experience for myself and anyone who wishes to come with me.

20 days to go.
Christmas day, 2010.
I woke up today with a sore throat and no presents under the tree. It made me think that maybe, I should've taken everything I've bought for my trip and put it there. It would most definitely make a huge pile of stuff. Still I don't feel ready.
I was born and raised in a city where 10ÂșC is the average lowest temperature for winter. We get maybe one month of rain out of the whole year. A lot of people around here (including myself) have never even seen snow.
There are a lot of ways I could've started this blog, but I've apparently decided to introduce myself by talking about the weather.
Hi, my name is Aurkene and I'm a cold weather wuss.
I've been thinking a lot about this during the holiday season. Being totally unprepared for a real winter, I've practically had to start from scratch. I'd never realized buying a decent pair of gloves or an umbrella would be so difficult. Perhaps I'll regret focusing so much on the cold when winter ends and I'm left with a whole wardrobe that I have no use for, but we'll have to wait and see.
My plane leaves on January 14th. I feel like there are so many things to do--get a debit card, buy a decent international cellphone plan, pack, for god's sake, pack--but this is what's been on my mind today. I don't know if I feel merry or jolly or just plain scared, so I'd rather just focus on the clothes.
Happy Newton day, by the way.
